Pilar Urbano and Jesus Palacios (Angel Vinas, Belgium, 06/15/14 1:27 pm)
In response to Anthony Candil´s post regarding the Urbano/Palacio duo, I have the following to say.
1. I immediately bought Urbano´s book. It contains so many stupidities that I discarded it in utter disgust. Anthony doesn´t need to believe me. He could trace some of her egregious mistakes by surfing in http://anatomiadelahistoria.com/2014/04/juan-carlos ... and read the article by the distinguished historian Roberto Muñoz Bolaños.
As for Jesús Palacios, I invite Anthony to surf on www.ucm.es or uam.es and have a look at the faculty. Anthony may have been led astray by the equivocal title "profesor asociado," translating it as "associate professor." It´s a false cognate. In Spanish it means somebody who´s invited by a University to lecture occasionally, often without pay. It´s used to put some gold on business cards.
If my memory is correct, but I may be wrong, Palacios in times past used to have an affiliation with a private Catholic University, San Pablo-CEU. Anthony should not believe that as far as Contemporary History is concerned, it is a Spanish Notre Dame. It´s rather a redoubt of right-wing, occasionally extreme right-wing, historians.
JE comments: "Profesor asociado" would probably best be translated as "Adjunct Professor" or "Adjunct Instructor." To make it clear for those outside the academic rat-race, "Associate Professor" is a far more prestigious position, signifying the achievement of tenure (permanent job security).
