re: WAIS and Wikipedia; a WAIS Conflict Resolution Committee? (Tom Hashimoto, Japan/Albania) (John Eipper, USA, 04/22/09 7:14 pm)

Tom Hashimoto replies to A. J. Cave's post of 21 April: I think A.J. Cave's idea of a WAIS Conflict Resolution Committee is interesting. It sounds like more the International Court of Justice than the Security Council. So we should have two or three permanent members (preferably they would consist of WAISers who have been active in discussion, but have not been criticized). Once a conflict occurs, those who submit/accept the jurisdiction of the CRC should send one representative each (not themselves) to the CRC as ad-hoc members of the CRC. The CRC should focus only mitigation and arbitration of the conflict, and should avoid any judgments which impose punishment. However, the CRC should submit the case report to the Trustee or the Board of Directors. The CRC should aim to maintain the moral standard of free speech community, rather than restricting speeches which caused conflicts. JE comments: A very formal framework for little ol' WAIS, which on a good day I like to think of as a family. I don't know if there is a WAISer out there who hasn't been criticized. By these criteria, I would certainly not qualify for the CRC! Any volunteers to serve? Other thoughts in favor and against the CRC? How's life in Albania, Tom? Send us an update when you get the chance.
