Just as Mexico has accustomed itself to a previously impossible-seeming level of group-style violence (in a cooperative culture dating back through the Toltecs)--that is, accustoming itself because there seems to be no choice--so, too, the United States is now accustoming itself to a previously impossible-seeming level of individual-initiative, lone-nut-grandiosity violence. Because, also, there seems to be no choice.
JE comments: Add Dayton on Saturday, and Gilroy before that. I offer no facile solutions, but one thing is indisputable: whatever our society is doing at present is not working.
