PostObserving a Moment of Silence in Savona (Eugenio Battaglia, Italy, 08/03/19 6:44 am)
John E asked about moments of silence. In Savona, each evening at 18:00 in Mameli Plaza (Goffredo Mameli, hero of the Italian Risorgimento and author of the words of the Italian national anthem), the bells of the Monument to the Fallen Soldiers toll for one minute and all the traffic stops.
I believe that this ceremony is observed in very few towns in Italy.
JE comments: Interesting. At six o'clock (AM and PM) in Colombia, all radio and TV stations play the national anthem. You can set your watch by it. Do other countries do this?
