Brunch with Muqtedar Khan (John Eipper, USA, 07/29/19 2:33 pm)

During my visit to Delaware last week, I enjoyed getting together with my dear friend and fellow WAISer Muqtedar Khan, who taught in the Political Science Department at Adrian College 2000-2005. Muqtedar is now a professor at the University of Delaware, the Alma Mater of both my parents.

Muqtedar's daughter Ruhi joined us for brunch. She is 17 and is interning this summer with at the Governor's office in Dover. The last time I saw Ruhi she was 4 or 5 years old, and now she's shopping around for colleges. Her big brother Rumi will be a junior next year at Harvard.

The Khans are an extraordinary family, as gracious and welcoming as they are accomplished. My only grievance with Muqtedar is he doesn't write often enough for WAIS. (!)

A few months back Muqtedar announced the publication of his latest book, Islam and Good Governance (Palgrave, 2019). http://waisworld.org/go.jsp?id=02a&objectType=post&o=124273&objectTypeId=90023&topicId=175

It's a rigorous yet readable study of the Islamic concept of ihsan (perfection, good deeds, beauty), and a call to apply this scriptural ideal to the here and now--namely, government and society. I just happened to have my copy in the car (never travel without it!), and the three of us posed for a photo (below).

It was great to catch up.
