Not All Billionaires are Sociopaths: Nick Hanauer (Tor Guimaraes, USA, 07/29/19 6:01 am)

In the past I have run across wealthy billionaires who seem not to be greedy sociopaths but actually quite enlightened. For example the famous Warren Buffett saying that he thought unfair that he paid less income tax than his secretary. Many other wealthy people have been notoriously generous philanthropists.

Today I was stunned by Nick Hanauer talking about the importance of the middle class for a healthy sustainable economic system. As most WAISers may know, this is an issue (that wealth/income inequality is killing democracy, etc.) that I have been posting about for many years, but Mr. Hanauer does it with more credibility (he is a billionaire, entrepreneur behind several successful companies). He seems to clearly understand all the issues and puts down much of the trickle-down nonsense spewed by greedy plutocrats and the subservient media. I would love to be able to vote for a person like him for president of our nation.

JE comments: Yowza, that's a long URL.  Hanauer, a Seattle-based venture capitalist, was one of the early investors in Amazon.  Smart move.  Hanauer's biggest idea/argument is to debunk the notion that tax breaks for the rich lead to job growth.  Rather, jobs come from the spending of the working and middle classes.

Has anyone in WAISworld read his 2007 book The True Patriot?
