Sebastian Gorka's CV (Timothy Brown, USA, 02/09/17 5:08 am)

The below is a copy of Dr. Gorka's CV as published by the IWP, Institute of World Politics, where I've lectured several times. While Gorka can be gruff and very self-certain, he is one of the leading experts in his field and I suggest that he not to be dismissed lightly.

Professor of Strategy and Irregular Warfare

Note: Dr. Gorka is currently on leave for government service.

Professional Experience

Associate Dean for Congressional Affairs and Relations to the Special Operations Community, & Associate Professor of War & Conflict Studies

Adjunct Professor (US National Security)

Associate Fellow

Dr. Sebastian Gorka was born in the UK to parents who escaped Communism during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He is an internationally recognized authority on issues of national security, irregular warfare, terrorism and democratization, having worked in government and the private and NGO sectors in Europe and the United States.

A graduate of the University of London, and Corvinus University, Budapest, he was Kokkalis Fellow at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and holds a PhD in political science. In the UK he served with 22 Company of the Intelligence and Security Group (V) of the Territorial Army.

In the past Sebastian has acted as a consultant to the RAND Corporation's Washington Office and was the first Director of the Institute for Transitional Democracy and International Security. After September the 11th 2001, he spent four years on the faculty of the Program on Terrorism and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall Center in Germany and has been involved in the training and education of 1,600+ counterterrorism, special forces and intelligence officers.

Dr. Gorka has published in excess of 140 monographs, book chapters and articles, many for the JANES Group of the UK, and appears regularly in the national and international press, to include the BBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, Breibart, REUTERS, BloombergTV, the Washington Post, EuroNews, Al Jazeera, Alhurra and Newsweek.

Dr. Gorka advises and briefs at the highest levels to US Special Operations Command, US Army Special Operations Command, and NATO. He is a frequent guest lecturer at institutions such as the FBI, the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (Fort Bragg), is lead instructor for US Special Operations Command's Combating Terrorism course, and recently briefed the National Intelligence Council (ODNI) and the CIA.

Dr. Gorka has advised the Office of the Secretary of Defense regarding the draft guidance for US Strategic Communications and was consulted by SOCOM during the drafting of the new Joint Operating Concept for Irregular Warfare. He is a founding member of the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs and was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation by US Special Operations Command.

2011 saw the publication of Toward a Grand Strategy Against Terrorism by McGraw Hill, which he was a contributor and co-editor for along with Dr. Chris Harmon and Professor A. Nick Pratt.

With David Kilcullen he co-authored a study of al Qaeda's use of strategic communications for the Praeger title Influence Warfare.

Currently Dr. Gorka is heading up a research project for US Army Special Operations Command as part of Commanding General Charles Cleveland's Army Special Operations Forces 2022 initiative.

I agree that Dr. Gorka can be gruff and has little patience for those that challenge or question his expertise in his field. But he should not be taken lightly, nor should he be lightly dismissed by those less informed than he is in his field of professional knowledge and expertise in irregular, unconventional and counterinsurgency conflicts, since he is a well known and highly respected expert in that field.

JE comments: Gorka's bios are unclear on which university issued his PhD.  Note the syntax used above, which implies Harvard, but that is not the case.  Wikipedia suggests Corvinus in Budapest.

I don't think anyone is taking Gorka lightly.  Rather, his cocksure and bullying attitude, together with his newfound political power, bring out a different reaction:  fear.
