PostBoth Presidential Candidates are Dogs? Please Don't Say That (Francisco Wong-Diaz, USA, 07/28/16 4:29 am)
I very strongly oppose Paul Levine's offensive reference to dogs. As a dog owner/lover, I can attest and advocate to their honesty, loving nature, loyalty, intelligence and open warmth. They are pure souls.
Please do not ever again insult my family members!
JE comments: Agreed--why do dogs get the bum rap? "S/he's a dog," "sick as a dog," "gone to the dogs," "dog-eat-dog," and my (least) favorite: "I don't have a dog in that fight." Fortunately, you rarely hear anyone say, "as a matter of fact, I do have a dog in that fight."
Francisco Wong-Díaz has introduced us to Isadora, a regal and loving airedale who won the coveted title of "Best Bitch in the West" several years ago. I hope Izzy is well, Francisco!
WAISers come in all political stripes and passions, but we agree on two things: a passion for world events, languages, and cultures, and a love of animals--cats, dogs, and my favorite WAISer pet of all: Martin Packard's lumbering and avuncular desert tortoise, Valley, who's been part of the Packard family since the early 1950s. That, my friends, is loyalty.
WAISer Paul Pitlick is another Turtle Guy, having shared his home for many years with Tommie, the Happiest Reptile in the West.
OK, The Presidential Candidates are Not Dogs
(Paul Levine, Denmark

My apologies to Francisco Wong-Díaz (28 July) for comparing the two main US presidential candidates to dogs.
Francisco is correct: neither candidate in Man's Best Friend.
JE comments: Glad we agree on that! In my comments to Francisco's post, I mentioned his prize airedale, Izzy. Francisco writes that Izzy is doing well and going strong at 8 and 1/2--although she's a bit overweight.
Aren't we all? Photo below. She looks great.
Sharp vest, too!
